 FAQs

  • What you talk about in counselling is treated as private and confidential within our organisation. There is one exception- If there is a risk of harm to yourself or another, it may be necessary to contact another professional person (usually your GP) about your situation. In most circumstances we will consult you before doing this. Please see the Privacy Policy for more information.

  • Our courses are run by professional Therapists and cost us £36/person, per 90 minute session. This is about 60% less than the equivalent cost for 1:1 counselling.

Mother Nurture costs us £360/person to run. Second Nature costs us £288/person to run.

All our courses are free to attend, BUT to allow our funds to go further and allow us to reach more mothers in need, we ask everyone to contribute what they can afford.

To make it as accessible to everyone as possible, we are asking women to pledge £30 a month for a year to cover the cost of their place. We believe this is an achievable amount for many women, and some may even be able to contribute a bit more to help fund another mother’s place.

Due to external funding, for those of you who are unable to afford to contribute £30, you may apply for a supported place. We also have a limited number of fully funded places for those who need them.

Please give what you can - this allows us to deliver more sessions and reach more women. Thank you!

  • In the past we ran fully funded sessions and asked people to make a small contribution at each session. This meant that our ability to run sessions was completely dependent on fundraising, and demand was outweighing supply and as a result our waiting list was really long. We know that mums often need support at a certain point in their transition to motherhood, so we have needed to adopt a new approach.

In the summer of 2023, a person on the waiting list contacted us and asked if she could pay for her space, and when we contacted the waiting list, a number of mums said they would like to pay for their place in order to have a session sooner than it would take for external funding to allow. Two new sessions were able to be filled and ran on this basis, which meant we were able to help 20 more women than we would otherwise have been able.

Times are tight for us all, but we are now asking those who can afford to, to pledge £30 a month for a year which funds a place on a Mother Nurture course. We will still continue to fundraise to allow for some free spaces, or part funded places for those who can’t pledge as much as £30/a month, but are able to give a lesser amount (£10/£20 per month).

  • This helps us understand the intent of our attendees and manage our budget accordingly.

  • Fees for one-to-one counselling are charged on a sliding scale, according to each individual’s ability to pay. This ranges from £20 - £40 per 50 minute session for one-to-one counselling. Occasionally we have some limited bursary spaces available, subject to funding. Please enquire. Fees will be discussed and agreed at your Initial Assessment.

  • We usually have between 12-15 attendees at our support groups.

  • Children under 1 year old are welcome at any of our Mother Nurture, Second Nature and Circle of Security sessions, and Well-being Days.

  • Our experience has taught us that it is best for you to attend 1:1 counselling without your child, as it is very challenging to focus and communicate openly when you are also trying to parent. We can discuss your situation if this will be challenging for you.
