What to expect
Becoming a mum/birthing-parent for the first time brings big changes to life and has lots of challenges! The group explores how the challenges and changes new mums are facing can feel huge, but are normal. We talk about birth stories, changes in identity, relationships, bonding & attachment, expectations, mental health, support networks and more - helping new mums realise they are not alone.
The weekly group is topic based and information giving, but with plenty of time for discussion and sharing experiences. There is space for up to 12 women and their infants (up to 12 months) in each group. Each session focuses on a different theme each week. You will receive information to understand the changes you are going through and learn coping strategies, helping you feel more in control of your life and emotions. You will also receive handouts to refer back to, after the group ends.
Our courses help you to explore the kind of mum you would like to become, and gives you space to explore your thoughts and feelings about parenthood. This leads to increased confidence in your parenting, and an even closer bond with your baby- helping you and your family get the best start. 91% of mums said the course improved their confidence as a mum.
By being in a group of other mothers, there is chance to build connections, and develop supportive relationships, lasting beyond the duration of the course. Many mums have made lasting friendships in our groups. When surveyed, 89% of mums said they felt less lonely and more connected by the end of the course.
We have a number of sessions planned over the coming months. To register your interest, please choose the location that suits you (there is an option to indicate multiple locations at sign up)
How much does it cost?
The 10 week course costs us £360 per person to run which is 60% cheaper than 1-1 counselling. Zoom sessions are cheaper, as they save on room hire cost, and work out as £24 per person, or £240 per 10 week course.
As demand grows and funding dwindles, we want to run as many courses as we can, in as accessible a way as possible. We know that times are tough, and as our groups are led by trained therapists, they aren't cheap to run. That's why we are trialing a Pay What You Can scheme, coupled with allowing you to break the payments down into affordable monthly contributions across the year.*
We have three pledge tiers; you may choose to Contribute to your space, Cover the cost of your space, or Champion our cause by paying for your space and contributing to that of another mum. We also have a number of Free Places for those most in need which can be applied for by clicking here. You're completely free to decide which option best suits you.
*Please note, once set up the Direct Debit will run until cancelled.
Testimonials
“Mother Nurture has completely changed me, for the better. When I started the course I was struggling with PTSD and depression from the impact of my traumatic birth. Since meeting so many incredible women and feeling heard I have massively turned a corner, I am starting to get back to my old self again and I’m a much better mother because of processing and sharing my feelings with women that understand.” Mum
“Mother Nurture was invaluable to me as a new Mum. Mother Nurture provides a supportive and welcoming safe space to share what new mums are REALLY thinking and feeling with a slice of therapeutic guidance too.” Mum
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to do Mother Nurture. Having professional experience of perinatal mental health services, and personal experience of the support available, I truly feel that the groups offer a unique and essential space for women who would otherwise fall through the cracks of the formal support available.” Mum
