“It was the single best thing I’ve done”

Here Karen* shares how she found joining one of our Mother Nuture groups.

”Life before the group was lonely at times. I had this assumption that I would make a load of mum friends through NCT, but I didn’t click with anyone there. We didn’t have anything in common. I didn’t know anyone

with babies of a similar age.

“I found my daughters birth really difficult. I’d been to birth stories at hospital but was still struggling to process the birth and heard about Mother Nuture from my midwife, and it seemed like a good balance with being facilitated rather than just meeting mums.

Single best thing

“It was the single best thing I’ve done for myself. The facilitators amazing. It was brilliant and so well held. I’m a social worker and I could really tell so much thought and effort had gone into designing the sessions.

“I learned new things and I feel like I’ve got a new best friend and other mums I could talk to or meet up with. It’s like gold dust in the expanse of early motherhood to have those people around you.

“The facilitators made it easy to share and be vulnerable and then other people do. It fast tracks that closeness and intimacy that could take years to build with a friend.

“Learning about matresence and the grief of losing life before being a mum was helpful. It feels like you crawled in my brain and untied a knot. I knew it was there and if not for the group I wouldn’t have been able to

unpick it all.”
